PRODUCT DESIGN
Este proyecto se desarrolló dentro de la asignatura "Metodología y Orientación de proyectos" durante 4 meses. Participaron 4 estudiantes de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) del doble grado de Ingeniería de Diseño Industrial y Desarrollo de Producto y Ingeniería Mecánica.
This project was developed within the course "Project Oriented Methodology" during 4 months. The team consisted of 4 students of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) studing a doble Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design and Product Development and Mechanical Engineering.

RETO
Los requerimientos de este proyecto eran llevar a cabo el diseño y desarrollo de un equipo deportivo técnico con la nueva tecnología de impresión 3d HP Multi Jet Fusion.
El equipamiento a mejorar escogido por el grupo fueron las protecciones de piernas y pies de los porteros de hockey hierba.
En este deporte, la seguridad y el rendimiento del portero en el campo dependen directamente de la calidad del equipo que viste, por lo que su mejora puede repercutir en los resultados de todo el equipo.
CHALLENGE
The requirements fot this project were to carry out the design and developement of a techincal sport equipement using the new printing technology 3d HP Multi Jet Fusion.
The equipment chosen to improve were the protections for the legs and feet used by field hockey goalkeepers.
In this sport, the security and performance of the goalies on the field are directly related to the quality of their equipment, therefore its improvement could benefit the results of the whole team.

El diseño presentado está orientado a porteros de hockey hierba profesionales compitiendo al más alto nivel.
Las tres principales demandas de este colectivo para mejorar su equipamiento fueron mayor adaptación del material al cuerpo, calzado específico adaptado a sus movimientos y mejora de la durabilidad de las piezas de protección.
Las características ideales para su equipamiento son una máxima protección, un máximo volumen y un mínimo peso.
The design presented is oriented to field hockey goalkeepers competing professionally at the highest level.
The three main demands of this group to improve their equipment were a better adjustment of the material to their bodies, footwear designed for their movements and limitations and a longer durability of all the protection parts.
The ideal characteristics for all the equipment would be maximum protection, maximum volume and minimum weight.

Características del diseño presentado está compuesto por dos partes, las guardas, para proteger las piernas y las kickers, para los pies:

MEJORA en la ADAPTACIÓN al cuerpo sin perder sin perder libertad de movimiento y ganando comodidad.

INCREMENTO de la SEGURIDAD sin sacrificar ligereza en el producto.

MEJORA de la VIDA ÚTIL de las protecciones.

Cambio de material y diseño para un MAYOR VOLUMEN a la vez que permitiendo REDUCIR el PESO.

Characteristics of the design presented has two parts, the leg guards and the kickers:

BETTER ADJUSTMENT to the body without losing freedom of movement and gaining comfort.

INCREASED SECURITY without sacrificing the lightness of the product.

LONGER LIFETIME for the protections.

Change of the design and material to allow a LARGER VOLUME and at the same time REDUCING WEIGHT.

Las guardas constan de dos partes, una se mantiene fija a la pierna mientras que la otra es extraíble. La primera consta de 3 partes: una estrucura 3D, un forro viscoelástico y unas cintas elásticas. La segunda es una espuma protectora, extraíble e intercambiable, que se coloca sobre la estructura base usando dos guías completando la protección de la pierna. Esta separación facilita y hace más cómodo el uso de este elemento tanto dentro como fuera del terreno de juego, facilita su transporte y reduce el recambio de piezas a aquellas que más sufren, como puede ser la espuma.
These leg guards have two distinct parts, one of them remains fixed to the leg while the other can be detached. The first one in composed of 3 elements: a 3D structure, a viscoelastic lining and elastic strips. The second one is a removable and replaceable foam placed over the base structure using two guides completing the protection of the leg. This separation makes easier and more comfortable the use of this equipment either inside and outside of the field. It also facilitates its transportation and it reduces the replacements to those parts that suffer the most, as can be the foam.

ESPUMA PROTECTORA
PARTE EXTRAÍBLE
Su función principal es la de absorber los impactos de la bola en las piernas que recibirá el portero. Su forma rectangular y sus dos aletas laterales permiten una protección completa de la pierna.
Sus dimensiones se adaptaran a cada cliente, el ancho puede ser como máximo de 300 mm y la altura llega desde el tobillo hasta por debajo de la rodilla.

REMOVABLE PART
Its main function is to absorb the impacts of the ball the goalkeeper will receive. Its rectangular shape and its two side wings allow the complete protection of the leg. Its dimensions can be adapted to each body, the maximum width is 300 mm and the height goes from the ankle to above the knee.

Las kickers están diseñadas en dos partes. La primera es muy parecida a una zapatilla de deporte con una puntera añadida para la protección especial de la punta del pie, una de las zonas que más sufre. La segunda es la espuma protectora, extraíble e intercambiable, que se coloca sobre la zapatilla base para completar la protección de todo el pie. Esta separación facilita y hace más cómodo el uso de este elemento tanto dentro como fuera del terreno de juego, facilita su transporte y reduce el recambio de piezas a aquellas que más sufren, como puede ser la espuma.
These kickers are designed in two pieces. The first one is similar to a regular sport shoe with a shoe toe box for an extra protection of that area because of its quick deterioration. The second one is a detachable and replaceable foam, that completes the protection of the whole foot. This separation makes easier and more comfortable the use of this equipment either inside and outside of the field. It also facilitates its transportation and it reduces the replacements to those parts that suffer the most, as can be the foam.

ESPUMA PROTECTORA
PARTE EXTRAÍBLE
Absorbe los impactos en el pie cubriéndolo por completo. Incorpora unas cintas elásticas y un clip para asegurar una buena sujeción a la zapatilla base y evitar su movimiento. Su grosor varía entre 30 y 40 mm, siendo la pared interior la más espesa ya que esta suele ser la cara más utilizada para parar la bola.

It completely covers the foot absorbing the hits it takes. It also has two elastic strips and a clip to ensure a good subjection to the base footwear and avoid the foam from moving. Its thickness varies between 30 and 40 mm, the inner part being the thickest one as it is the face that gets hit the most.
